Topic: Standards driven Research – The catalyst for Ubiquitous Connectivity

Abstract

We are standing at the cusp of a unique opportunity to catapult India into a new era of socio-economic development powered by technology. 5G and beyond represents the disruptive convergence of technologies with the potential to transform all aspects of our lives. Ubiquitous connectivity provides the backbone for the Digital India which is the central pillar for socio-economic development as articulated in Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision.  Atma Nirbhar Bharat is about unleashing the potential of India to transform itself from being a “late consumer of products and technology” to becoming “a significant global producer of technology and products” . This talk tries to make a case for the catalytic role that “standards driven research” can play in seizing this opportunity to transform India.

The talk will start with building the link between the 5G paradigm shift and the vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. Then we will dwell over India’s unique challenges and opportunities in embracing new and emerging technologies. The case study of how China embraced the “standards driven research” model  to emerge as a giant in technology will be presented. An overview of the global world of standards will be provided. Finally, India’s most recent initiatives and an Indian framework to emerge as a leader in the world of telecom standards development will be used to urge the audience to take the first step to join hands in this journey of transformation.

Title: Towards a Hyper Connected Future

Abstract

Amidst the pandemic, IT/ITeS industries were able to continue business as usual by operating remotely, on the other hand the manufacturing industries were impacted by the lock downs/restrictions causing distress to the economy. Enterprises and governments should consider mandatorily automating a percentage of business operations to ensure continuity in all adverse scenarios. In this context, 5G commercialization has been timely as it provides the ideal platform for this digital transformation.  Technology enabled solutions can provide the right balance to ensure economic progress and business continuity. Moving on, we have to continue exploring new avenues to enhance the User experience and enable new industries that are built on ubiquitous & high speed digital connectivity. In this talk we explore the importance of communication in the new normal and how moving towards a hyper connected world is inevitable and at the same time beneficial to the progress of human society.
